Take a photograph of the Confederate Powderworks Chimney. Used to produce gunpowder, this 168-foot chimney is Augusta’s only surviving structure built by the Confederacy.
Tour the old arsenal, now the campus of Augusta State University. Formerly an arsenal for the U.S. Army, it was captured by Confederate soldiers when the war broke out. Pay tribute to fallen troops at the Confederate Monument. Built to honor anonymous enlisted men, it also celebrates Generals Robert R. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, T.R.R. Cobb, and W.H.T Walker – whose ghostly life-size statues surround the monument’s base.
