An Evening with Nicholas Sparks

Nicholas Sparks, best-selling author of favoritesincluding The Notebook and Safe Haven , will speak at the ColumbiaCounty Amphitheater. Sparks is known for his 17 New York Times #1bestsellers, many of which have been adapted into films. This is Sparks’ first time speaking inthe Augusta area.
“Sparks is an inspiration to romantics and aspiringwriters alike,” said Columbia County Library Director Mary Lin Maner. “This is a unique opportunity for everyonewho has been touched by his work to gain insight into his creative process.”
Leading up to the October 26 event, the library willalso host four weeks of film screenings and discussions. Each week will focus on one of Sparks’ booksthat has been adapted to film. The filmwill be shown on Tuesday at 6:00 pm, and the discussion/comparison to the bookwill be Thursday at 6:30 pm. The October1 film is The Last Song , withdiscussion October 3. The October 8 filmis A Walk to Remember , withdiscussion October 10. The October 15film is Safe Haven , with discussionOctober 17. The October 22 film is The Notebook , with discussion October24. All films and discussion are freeand open to the public.
“So many of us have read Sparks’ books and seen thefilm versions. The film series will giveus an opportunity to discuss how these works touched us as well as differencesbetween the books and films,” Maner added.
